I have a theory...

Do you think the whole "Silvia conversion this" and "S15 lights that" fads would even exist if Nissan would have just sold the S15 in North America?

(Ditto for the Skyline, but this is the 240SX forum. )

definitley not. you don't see many people rushing around to put S14 lights on their cars, do you? since they sold that car here without the body being touched in any way shape or form, people take it for granted. sure, there are a few ricers here and there who tack on those horrid S14 front end kits to their riced out Integras and Civics, but the rush isn't as big. i WISH this whole S15 fad would just go away. it used to be my favourite car, and still is to a degree, but now with all the exposure it's had to the wrong sorts of crowds...it's light has dimmed a bit in my mind.

I agree, but the S15 is easily my fourth favorite car in the world.
1 being R390 GT1, 97 model; 2 being Skyline GT-R R34; 3 being 300ZX TT. No matter how much ricers screw up its name, I don't think I can ever forget its greatness. It had a lot of awards in Australia alone (and they actually speak english!). 300hp in such an affordable, small car with just a boost controller... Nissan knew what it was doing, as always, when they made this car. God I love Nissan, I need to alter my sig now... lol

yeah, nothing the ricers can do will ever change my mind completely...but they've sort of tarnished the name a bit, you know?

Actually, yes I do...and it makes used S14 lights hella expensive.

well, ok. but not as much as S15 lights. either way, this whole "fad" thing the ricers have got going on is pissing me off...but i'm not going to let it get to me. hopefully, just like any of their fads, it'll be gone in a month and the new one will come storming in.

you know i still don't understand what goes thru there minds when they do such stupid things to there cars and they think its cool? how da hell are they fooling. it really does piss me off whenever i see a rice mobile. but i also hate how alot of younger domestic crowd calls the people who really know what they're doin in the import crowd a bunch of ricers too.
last time i was talkin to my professor and hes like

professor: go play with your honda
me: its not a honda, its a nissan, it has a bigger motor.
strangers in the hall: same shit, if it don't got 8 cylinders its not a real car.

i wish i can kill those mofos!!! i would argue with them, but the argument would always end up the same way. well you need a turbo to this and that. we do'nt need a turbo. what if we put a turbo on our car. and what not.

ricers:badass: and younger close minded domestic fucks:badass:

when i get my turbo done i'm goin to laugh at them if my 240 can either keep up or beat their precious v8

These front-end swaps between the S13/S14/S15 has been happening for a LONG time in Japan, I have plenty of images in my archives of all types of front ends being swapped. Its funky, but I dont hate.. because atleast its being done within the S-family of vehicles. But when people do this to their cars our here simply for status, its just nuts.. I dont like it. The good thing about Japan is that cars are usually done-well or not done at all. Out here, I see people driving their car with unpainted body kits and shit like that.

As for the whole import vs domestic arguement, it simply comes down to preference. Some people enjoy the sound of a domestic V8, what can you say they sound mean AND put out some serious power. Its old-school technology that works, and most of those motors are CHEAP to build. A lot of companies even sell built crate motors, simple stuff. But what about the REST of the car? Depending on the year of the domestic car, things can get pretty shitty. Newer domestic cars SUCK, I cant stand their poor design. Atleast the older Mustang's and what not had some solid metal panels, nowadays its all cheap plastic.

Not that our cars arent plastic.. but man, the interior of the 240SX looks clean, PERIOD. Its not janky like most domestic cars. Personally, I think most Japanese cars are ideal for smaller people, I am 5'8" and my S13 fits great. I know larger folks have a hard time in our cars.

Besides, our cars have a weight advantage which shows in the handling and braking performance of our cars.. so it just depends what you want to do.

S13/S14 = Canyon car
Mustang = Drag/Highway

I mean look at the Supra, that car is pretty heavy too.. its more designed for drag/highway. Why do you think they swap the 3SGTE in the Supra for serious competition? Lighter and better balance, but I am sure its horrible in terms of driveability (if the motor is heavily modified).

HAHAHA!!! HIS car?? if it was HIS car, i would bow down to him every time he came online. no, that's the 1580 owned by Signal Auto tuning house in Japan, driven by "Drifter X", Fumiaki Komatsu.

i have also see an S14 face put onto a 180SX, and i must say it looked nice. another bad-ass car that i saw somewhere on the internet was an S14 back end with a 180SX front end on it. weird idea, i know, but it looks awesome! here's photo evidence for you skeptics...
