i myself am not a "model" and i like this chik alot, we have been good friends for long, i dont give a shit how she looks cuz shes the greatest person i know.. im 14, bein with somone hot and popular is all the craze, people tell me live out your childhood! but id rather be mature and catch all the real good people

If you aren't attracted to someone's personality, it'll never work. However, if you aren't physically attracted it can cause alot of difficulties. Not only for you, but for your significant other also. All girls(and don't bother arguing this point with me, I won't change my mind ) like to hear you say how pretty they are, but if you don't think they ARE pretty, you're going to have a dishonest relationship and that's never good. Personality is more important, but physical attraction between two people is a definite must.

Edit: I'm an 18 year old male, and I think dating friends can go either way....I've seen it go sour for some but it worked out wonderfully for me.

It depends on which sex your talking about. Men place ALOT on a woman's appearance, women however, place just as much on a man's personality. You always see incredibly hot women with average guys. But you almost never see an extremelly attractive man with an average woman.

If you like your friend, go for it. You'll only regret not taking the chance. And if it doesn't work out, at least you tried. I'm a 17 year old guy.

All great answers....telling women they are pretty when you don't think they are the great is lying. Being honest is the best way to go except when i take it too far and its almost cost me a couple times. I had a really good friend of the opposite sex but because of the strict private school i went to we weren't allowed to date and all the good stuff that comes with relationships. She hung around for a year after we graduated and i didn't try to date her and for the last two years i haven't stop thinking about it. Can you end up loving someone you never took out on a date, kissed, had sex with, but just talked to for hours late at night. YES! The only thing you have to lose is the opportunity. And remember women say they want honesty. THEY DON'T WANT HONESTY!
