Engine over heated and the temperature gauge went past it's max. New resting temp on gauge is 130 instead of 100. So does that mean the temperature gauge spring maybe overextended and is now 30 degrees off? Meaning we need to subtract 30 degrees from whatever the temp is actually reading?

Better, would be to compare it to a thermometer for a safe reading.
If you find it to be different amounts at different readings, I would plan on replacing the gauge. Bob B |
