I have a 1996 blazer Lt 4.3ltr v-6 4wd is switchable to hi or low and back to 2wd. It has a GMPT 4L60E transmission.
It is my understanding that there is 2 types of transmissions 1 is the long type for 4x4 and the other is the short types for 2x4. so i take it mine would be the 2x4 short type? |

Re: Transmission ????
The transmission used with 2WD is physically longer than the transmission used with 4WD. The 2WD transmission has an extension housing bolted to the rear of it. The 4WD transmission has the transfer case bolted to it.

thanks
mine has the transfer case on the back of the transmission. I always thought that 4x4 is just that 4 wheel drive and 2x4 is just 2 wheel drive but after reading some posts that made me think a 4x4 is always in 4wheel drive and a 2x4 is switchable from 2 wheel drive to 4 wheel drive |

Re: Transmission ????
4WD (4X4) is selectable from 4 wheel drive to 2 wheel drive. It is actually a T10 Blazer.
2WD (4X2) is strictly rear wheel drive and is an S10 Blazer.
