Ok so I had two Jeeps towed in with similar problems. One a 97 4.0L GC Laredo and one a 98 5.2L GC Limited. I printed off the whole thread entitled PLEASE HELP Jeep Stalling and found it very helpful so far. Little confusing at first glance because for instance the wiring harness rubbing on the AC lines is only an issue on the 5.2L setup from what I can see. But once I got through all of that. The 4.0L got a new distributor pickup, cap, rotor, and coil as well as new ASD and fuel pump relays. And perrs like a kitten now. The 98 took simply a distributor rotor as the contact on the end snapped off? Full tune up and it is perfect now.
I drive the 97 for the weekend, very hot and humid, AC kicking and NO Issues what so ever. I give it back to the customer and two days later it is stalling again. Did I mention that the customer is my Mother? So I end up buying the Jeep because she has no faith in it anymore. Anyway another week of driving rain, sun, and finally last night it acts up for me for the first time. The rpms dropped and there was a big bang out the tail pipe like a backfire and it stumbled then stalled. I pushed it into N while still rolling and it fires right back up and runs fine for about 50 feet. There it losses power again and appears to have stalled but at the very last second comes back just as strong. I then drove it another 3 miles home thrashing it for all it was worth and it did nothing else. No codes in the system. I am thinking the computer is on it's way out. I ran the numbers off the sticker and can't seem to come with any hits what so ever? The part number is 1-R5010381AB and according to the sticker it is a Mopar rebuilt unit from 2004?
Does Mopar Parts issue a new part number for a rebuilt unit or is the R the rebuilt part and this is the wrong ECM in the Jeep to start with??? Any Chrysler Techs have any other suggestions.

PS They should have one of those little faces banging his head off the WALL!!!
