another 97 Ignition switch question

I've had some problems with my 97 Blazer having intermittent episodes where it won't start.

At this point, when I turn the key "on" , the gauges don't move, no fuel pump action like normal. I can't get it out of park either.

Earlier today, it did this and I jiggled the gear shift and everything came to life and she cranked up perfectly. Now that trick doesn't work.

The truck did something like this about 8 years ago and we replaced the ignition switch and that fixed it.

I know the 97 Blazer is notorious for having ignition switch problems, but is that generally just for the switch that came with the truck? Or does this truck just wear them out somehow?

It's usually just the OEM supplied module that goes bad.

But, you obviously have the same problem as the switch module going bad.

The switch went in mine perhaps 8 years ago.
I thought it happened again 1 year later. Same exact symptoms. I replaced the GM bought replacement switch with an Autozone Wells switch, but it didn't help.
Turns out the ECM failed.
The only thing I will mention is, when the switch module went, I had intermittant problems with it like you describe.
When the ECM went, it was immediate. Everything failed at once, never to light up again - until the new ECM was installed.

So, I'd say if your problem is intermittant, it's most likely the switch.
Just my thoughts.

Thanks for the info!

The engine control module (computer)

Also known as EEM, plus other acronyms.

Re: another 97 Ignition switch question

Just in case anyone is following this with a similar problem....I replaced the ignition switch and she started right up for a couple of days.. I replaced the fuel filter yesterday since it was long overdue. A couple of starts later, it began acting up again.
Time to get off my butt and go get a fuel pressure gauge, I guess.
