2000 ASRO with mice!

I've got mice in my 2000 LS AWD - so where are these guys coming in? Little sucker ate my cookies in the glovey.

One of my dogs chased one into the left side back seat vent once, but I don't know where the intake is for the back seat heater. The engine cover seal is tight and all my door seals are good, so I figured they must be comin' in through the vents. Are the back seat heat vents separate from the dash heat, and, if so, where does the air come in?

Thanks

Re: 2000 ASRO with mice!

Had this problem before.

There is a panel on the driver's side left rear that you should check. (In front of the rear seat.) I think it holds the blower motor for the RR Heating system. Also, check the exhaust vents for the rear. IF you have the three-prong vent directional 'thingies'-they're the perfect size for holding small rodents.

And the front feeds the back through a plastic vent in front of the engine cover. You have to take off the lower part of the dash panel. (Glove box, cupholders deal.) Then you have to jimmy the vent out of there. (I found a dead mouse in the floor vent not too long after un-mothballing the thing.)

While you're there, you might as well take off the engine cover and check the distributor. I've found a nest under it (the distributor) before, and droppings more than once. If all else fails, hook your battery to the body! They should run after not-too-much 12V power is applied to them!

Best of luck.

Re: 2000 ASRO with mice!

Thanks Truck. I've dealt with the feed that runs down behind the glove box, but I thought that just fed the two vents under the front seats. I'll have to blow through the rear side vents to see what comes out where. I really think it's a separate system, as there is a hot water hose that comes back around the engine for a rear heater core (and there's the hoses for the rear A/C) - it sure works well, we can hardly turn it on in the winter.

I had a nest behind the distributor, too, last year when I changed out the cap and the manifold gaskets. I replaced their nest with some Irish Spring shavings, which deters them in the pantry, or so my wife swears. I have some stuff to do in there soon, so I'll see if it worked.

Thanks again.
