Showrooms don't really count. Anyone can go to a nice showroom or show and see lots of nice cars. It is more interesting to hear about someone seeing one on a road or in a parking lot...

Hello guys! I'm new here. Impressive lists, all of you. I am envious!
Being from the South (as in southern United States), to see an exotic car is an extremely special and rare thing. Still, I've been fortunate to see a few, though I did have to travel out of the South to see a few of them. I've seen all manner of muscle cars, from Daytona Superbirds to General Lee replicas and even Cobra 427s. Saleen Mustangs, Steeda Mustangs, and even a concept Saleen "El Camino" type once. But, the cars that really get my blood pumping are the exotics. They include several DeTomaso Panteras, many Porsches and an occasional Ferrari. I have also seen a few Lotus supercars and Lamborghinis. The Lamborghinis are my favorite. Vipers and NSXs abound, even in the South, so they are not nearly as soul stirring to me, though they are impressive cars. The cars that really stand out are a Ferrari 288 GTO (in Atlanta, my fave Ferrari), a Ferrari F40 (in Jackson, MS of all places!), a black Diablo Millenium Edition Roadster (Springfield, MO), a Lamborghini Jalpa (Shreveport, LA), a Ferrari 355 (Jackson, MS), a red Anniversary Countach (Ashville, NC), a black Testarossa (Columbus, MS) and my favorite, a black 25th Anniversary Countach with the euro front bumper and rear wing. That car, which was in Springfield, MO, absolutely made my heart melt. I've seen several Diablos, 308s, 328s, a 348, Porsche 911s, Boxters, a couple of Testarossas, and Lotus Esprits. One Porsche that really impressed me was in Tupelo, MS and appeared to be a slant-nosed 930. The sheer width of its rear tires would cause any sane-minded person to stop and stare. I wish I could have gotten a better look at it. One Viper (yes, a lowly Viper) that impressed me was a Viper GTS-R in Memphis, TN. That car just looked like it was itching to eat anything up on the road. I've seen a couple of Countach replicas, but as many of you would agree, most of those are a joke. Two that I've seen could have passed for the real deal, and one of those was actually a tube-framed Ford V8-powered double used in a movie role. I still dream about owning that one. Cars I would love to see include any older Lamborghini Countach, a McLaren F1, and any model Vector. I missed viewing a McLaren F1 at an exotic car dealership by two weeks and a Vector at another dealership by just days. (Sigh) I guess the ratio of cars I've seen on the road as adverse to those in a showroom are about 50/50. While I love seeing them on the showroom, I like much better seeing them on the road and hearing them as they roar past. There's something about seeing a sleek Diablo slip past a Ford pickup that amazes me. There's something about hearing the throaty growl of a Ferrari flat-12 as a wet-black Testarossa accelerates by that gets my adrenaline flowing. I love to see 'em. Wish I could see them more. |
