2001 Grand Prix GT

So, I have a 2001 Grand Prix with the 3800 V6. My problem is a common one, the transmission. If i'm accelerating it will only go up to about 4k RPM's and won't shift. I have to let out of the throttle entirely before it shifts to the next gear. Any ideas? Would it be the TCC Solenoid or the Pressure Control Solenoid?

Welcome to AF!!

This sounds like a pressure control solenoid especially since it goes to 4K and doesn't shift. This is a $500 repair at a tranny shop. I suggest that you have it diagnosed by the tranny shop prior to authorizing repairs.

Well I drove it some more yesterday, I own a car lot so I never drove it much, and after getting it somewhat warmed up it was also surging. Even when putting it in neutral it wouldn't go above 3800 RPM's. It shifts smooth when you take your time.

Re: 2001 Grand Prix GT

not going above 3800rpm in neutral or drive may be the rev-limiter.

However, if it wont go above 4k in drive, it sounds like a possible cat converter problem. Depending on the milage you have, it may still be covered under GM.
