A B.F.H is not always a good idea.
I thought i would pass this along because I am sure someone has had on eof these wtf moments.The truck I have is a 93 1500 4x4 5.7 that I bought a few months ago reallllyyyy cheap.I have been trying to get the bugs worked out where the previous owners have done some really crappy work.Sometime before I bought it,somone had done a engine swap.Engine seems to be ok,besides some belt drive issues I have been having.The engine swap was done kind of half assed,by that I mean things left lying loose on top of the engine such as sensors and such.Some of the wiring harnesses that have a mounting bracket are still loose and need to be secured in the right spots.Anyway,one of the first things I noticed while trying to figure out this issue is the crank pulley looked,well,strange.While the engine was running,it wasn't spinning straight.It looked like it was wobbling up and down,not front to back,up and down.I finally decided to take it off and check it out.After taking it off and putting it back on and still having the same issue,I took a closer look.The center of the pully where the center bolt goes was kind of caved in,ever so slightly.After looking at the balancer closer,I determined,someone must have had the balancer off,or replaced the old one and when they "reinstalled/installed" the balancer,they didn't used an installer,they used a hammer and rolled the center hole inward.SO,the raised edge on the back of the pulley wouldn't seat right and was slightley off center.I took a round file and smoothed it all out and installed a new pulley and everything is spinning like it should.Still having a slight belt drive issue,but I suppose I will get it worled out.So remember kids,hammers are for carpentry,not for automotive repair.I know this was a long post and hope it made a little sense,but if you have ver had a crank pulley off,you should know what I am talking about.
