How do you disable the theft lock system on a 2000 LS Impala?

No, waiting for some one to post. Also do you have to do this every time you need to disconnect the battery if your working on any thing electronic on these cars?

Re: Theft Lock System

Are you talking about Theft Lock for the radio, or Passlock? What is it doing or not doing?

Re: Theft Lock System

I'm talking about the theft lock. I need to remove the SRS from the car, but the book says to disable the system before doing so. Any comments?

Re: Theft Lock System

It's not necessary to do anything with Theftlock unless you're going to install the radio into a different vehicle. If you're reinstalling it back into the same vehicle, it will recognize the vehicle and operate just fine.

What's the problem with SRS system? Is the air bag light on? Are you removing/replacing an air bag?

Re: Theft Lock System

Yes, the air bag light stays on, not replacing any of the air bags, none of them were ever deployed. So I'm guessing I can just disconnect the battery with out any ill effects if I'm working with any of the electronics in the car or attempting to diagnose the air bag system?

Re: Theft Lock System

Improper diagnostic procedures and/or tampering with the SRS, (Supplemental Restraint System) can cause unexpected air bag deployment which can be lethal. Any service work to the system should be done by trained technicians only. That's why your neighborhood auto parts store can not retrieve SRS DTC's, (Diagnostic Trouble Codes).

Exclamation Re: Theft Lock System

Take the car to your local Dealer and have them troubleshoot your problem.

You should disconnect the battery any time major electrical work is done, like replacing the alternator.

The other posters are correct about the radio, and if you get one from a junk yard it needs to be programmed to the car, and its adviseable to get your SRS system checked.

I would not want to be in a position of bag deployment while you are driving on the turnpike or anywhere.

Re: Theft Lock System

Thanks, I will more likely take to the dealer to check it out. The air bag light has been on for almost a year now. I was hoping to save some money by doing some of the work myself. Most dealers are rip off's, when most likely all they have to do is reset the light or something like that!
