Toyota Supra Non-Turbo > NA-t
So after building a couple of single and after market twin turbo supra engines i decided to try to replicate my brothers supra for him to take around to shows when we go, and also to do something else unique, im not sure if you guys are familiar with this or not but the 2jz-gte (tt engine) looks a bit different than the 2jz-ge (non turbo eninge) in the manifold design, instead ofa front facing manifold, it has a manifold that crosses over, so when the non turbo guys go turbo, like me and my brother did, it looks a bit different from the twin turbo supras, here is what the na-t engines look like :

Re: Toyota Supra Non-Turbo > NA-t
Unique project. The work looks great so far.
![]() On a side note, I never liked that manifold design running over/near the exhaust manifold (no offense). Quite similar to the RB25 from Nissan it never made sense to me (besides for compactness sake since the battery and other junk is on that side). The other design would be the BP Mazda engines in the Miata/MX-5's with the air intake directly in front of the exhaust header. Have you taken any temperature readings on that J-bend pipe going into the throttle body? I can't see from the 1:1 pic if you've got a heat shield or heat wrap on your turbine/downpipe, but I'd think there might be a good amount of heat in that pipe after a few spirited runs. Speaking from experience working/seeing on other turbo cars the heat wrap definitely cools engine temps down.

Re: Toyota Supra Non-Turbo > NA-t
thanks man,
both of our cars have heat shielding built around the hot-side of the turbo to keep as much hot air out of the engine bay as possible. the intake pipe doesnt see too much heat soaking, and the air moves soo fast that it doesnt really have much heat transfer. as far as the overhead design, there is actually a purpose for that.. its used on non-turbo cars to get a more direct "ram air" effect into the cylinder head. It gives much better low-end torque and flows much better than the turbo head, on a turbo car companies like toyota arent too worried about effeciency since all they have to do is turn up the boost a little to make up for loss of power, but on a naturally aspirated car you need every ounce of power you can get out of an engine. I am currently having a front facing manifold built for my car b/c the turbo is a bit too large for the manifold to clear, this car i will be building after i find a set of rims that match : ![]()

Re: Toyota Supra Non-Turbo > NA-t
here is what i have after tonight, the progress is actually going pretty fast now that i have the engine done, i cant wait to see how it turns out, keep in mind that all of the piping is ran just like it is in a real car and would work like in the real world if the little engine could turn on and spin the turbo
, the interior is also done now that i replicated his EXACT seats that he has in his car, it was simply a miracle, i just happend to find a set of resin seats online that matched his recaro's perfectly, and then i had the recaro stickers left over from another build, enjoy:![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: Toyota Supra Non-Turbo > NA-t
How not to be enthusiastic as much by the model you're working on as well as the 1.1 supras you and your bro own.
Very nice cars and the work you've done so far on the model looks just perfect. If I can just throw in a suggestion, Recaros look nice and really close to reality but I would definitely spray them with a FLAT clear, they would look 10.000 times better. (after all, fabric ain't glossy). Will follow this one with interest, keep up the good work. |

Re: Toyota Supra Non-Turbo > NA-t
I pretty much remember seing some around the internet shops, not sure of the brand, maybe tamiya.
Another solution would be to use tamiya flat base (X-21) and to mix it with tamiya X-22 clear. One word of caution however, despite I have a bottle of this stuff sitting in my paint box, I never gave it a try yet and I read a lot of negative comments on this products, so you should better test it on scrap first.
