Question about Tamiya AM DBS

My DBS arrived today and all I can do is drool, cant wait to get started. My question for anyone that knows is what are the 3 bell shaped items and 3 discs to match on the clear sprue going to be for?

They are not used. There is a list of unused parts at the end of the instruction manual.

HI

Last week my the Tamiya DBS arrived, very nice kit, but I don`t like the
very rough and big tires and the seats seem to be very small ???

The tires are from the GT-R, so the shape is inaccurate. The seats are...just as bad as their GT-R kit.

1905mm excluding the mirrors, 2060mm including the mirrors. That means, in 1/24 scale, the measurements are 79mm and 86mm respectively.
The actual body at the rear fender is 81mm, so Tamiya added 1mm to both sides. This type of artistic liberties constantly comes under attack by hardcore modelers.

But the main problem I see are the measures - is it possible that the kit is not 1:24 ?
The width of the original car is 1905 mm, which means 79mm in 1:24, however, the body measures 86mm ?

Tamiya has always operated on a "looks like" system rather than exact data, perhaps they felt that the extra width was necessary? I think the proportions look quite good, but I will say the model looks a bit shorter than my mind sees a real DBS, so that extra width is probably what is doing that.

As for seats, it never crossed my mind when I built it. A lot of seats in exotics are narrow.

My biggest beef is with the clunky tires, same as they used in GTR. They're simply too tall. Enzo front tires would be perfect on it...

Yeah, Tamiya always undersizes the seats! They are usually too small all around and sit too low

It's due to the scale effect. An exactly scaled down car rarely looks right - e.g wheels & tyres end up looking too small etc etc. Even in car styling studios, a 1/4 scale styling buck of a final design (as opposed to a stylised concept) will be different to the exact same design when it is scaled to 1:1.

I always found this idea a bit strange, after all scaling parts down keeps the proportions.

I would rather say that the kit manufacturers often make the wheels small then what scaled down wheels should look like because the forgot that the rim size is on the bead and not on the rim's lip.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Mistakes like that by model kit producers will just compound the problem. However in automotive design circles, the scale effect is well known.

they made it WIDER!?? To me that's not a bad thing!
