Distributor Question

If i remember correctly my car has (or had) an HEI distributor? The question is, the one from my 305 and the one on the 350 i'm swapping in look the same except for one thing. On the 350 theres some kind of a vacuum hookup, which i'm assuming means it uses vacuum advance...as opposed to the centrifugal advance that i'm assuming my 305 has since there is no such vacuum device attached to the distributor.

What should i do about this? Is it as simple is hooking a vacuum line from the distributor to the intake manifold (if thats where it hooks up)?

Re: Distributor Question

The difference between engines is that your 350 is a 1980 or older - the computerized cars all had the distributor that your car has. It has niether vacuum nor centrifugal advance (both of which that 350 does), but the timing is instead controlled by the computer on the car.

Distributors used on Chevrolet V8 engines including Gen I non-OBDII small blocks, Mk. 3 and Mk. 4 and Gen 5 non-OBDII big blocks are all interchangeable. Just pull the dist out of the 305 and drop it into the 350.
