Re: How does an Escort compare to a Chevy Aveo

I don't really have an answer for your question.

Earliest model Aveo is 2002.

Last total redesign on the Escort I think might've taken place in '97. (discontinued in 2003 but latest I've seen is '01 maybe '02)

A more valid comparison would probably be the Aveo and Focus as they were introduced around the same time-frame.

But generally speaking, the longer a particular line of vehicle has spent in production, the more time engineers will have had to work out bugs and defects in the product materials and design. (and often conversely, cheapen the parts used, design, sometimes to the detriment of the product)

In terms of general feel, ride, performance, efficiency, short-term reliability, a newer design should have the advantage.

Re: How does an Escort compare to a Chevy Aveo

They are both more alike than different. The Escort has a 2.0L, 2 valves per cylinder, and a SOHC. The Aveo has a 1.6L, 4 valves per cylinder, and a DOHC. The Escort has split port injection and gets 40 mpg. and the Aveo gets 30 mpg. You can expect the timing belt to last 100k on the Escort and 60k on the Aveo. The Escort has 110 HP and the Aveo has 103 HP.

Some of the things I don't like on the Aveo are headlights that aren't adjustable, no radiator cap, you have to remove the headlilght assembly to change a turn signal bulb and you have to lock the drivers door with the key. There's nothing about the Escort that I don't like except it eats valve seats around 175k. I expect the Aveo to wear out long before that.

Some of the things I like about the Aveo over the Escort are a drivers side seat height adjustment, tilt wheel, cabin air filter, lockable fuel filler door and a hold device so you can drive an automatic like a stick.

Although the Escort is rated at 110 HP and the Aveo 103 HP, the Aveo will out run the Escort on any day of the month.

Let's face it. They are both econo-boxes. If you want comfort you will have to get into a bigger vehicle. The fuel mileage on the Aveo is much less than you'd expect to get in a car this small. The Aveo is the lowest priced new car manufactured in the U.S. and it is evident by the way they built it. The Escort is my daily driver. My better half drives the Aveo.
