Remote start install

98 Malibu 3.1 Have gotten pretty much everything else figured out on the remote start/alarm. Problem I'm now running into is the accessory wires from the remote start to the ignition switch. I have one output from the alarm and two Orange wires and two pink wires in the ignition harness. Do I need to tie into both and diode isolate them or what? Also the RS has an output to ground when remote starting, kills the ground while cranking and comes back when running. I am planning to use a relay, use this ground, to cut the accy power from the RS while cranking like it is set up from the factory. Is that a good idea, or just hook it direct? Or does one orange wire run lights, blower, windows, and the other everything else (radio, etc)? I know the radio doesn't cut out unless the car is bein bitchy and not wanting to start right away.


Alarm/RS system is an Autopage RS730, I have Violet for starter out, Red (x2) for power into the RS, yellow- ignition 1 out to pink in the car, pink - ignition 2 output to green in the car, and brown to accys- orange in car.

If I'm understanding correctly, the 2 red wires are just constant hots. I am running a feed line in from the battery for all my main power and for all my relays, and tieing into the line as needed. Can I just tie these two reds into my new main line, instead of cutting into more of the ignition harness? My "main line" is an amplifier power cable, so it is large enough to handle the load from several taps.

the short is don't do it. While at the dealership I couldn't tell you how many passlock equipped cars I took an aftermarket starter off of because it shut down the car. It may work fine when you put it on, but chances are it will strand you.

If it does you can leave the ignition on for 10 minutes and defeat the passlock, but they often cause trouble there.

Finally got time to finish the install. All alarm functions and features work perfect, including the extra switches and triggers I installed. Remote start does function, BUT, heres where I need some advice. The car has 2 ign. wires and 2 accy wires at the switch. I powered the 2nd for each through extra relays. The 2nd ign relay wire is triggered with an alarm ground when RS is intiated and remains while running. 2nd accy relay grounded from alarm wire that activates when RS intiates, goes away while cranking, and comes back once running. Car starts like it should, blower works, automatic lights work from light sensor, etc.

Radio stays off while remote start is active, and air bag light stays On. Insert key and turn to run to drive off and stereo comes on like it should, but air bag light stays on. Tap brakes or kill remote start with remote, start the car with the key everything is normal, air bag light goes out after light test. So do I need to swap the two accy wires around( one direct to module, other to my extra relay) or remove the ground when initiated, goes away while cranking, comes back when running, and just connect the other ground when intiated continues while cranking and running to this relay also or is there yet ANOTHER accy wire Im missing?

I had thought maybe the ground that cuts while cranking would maybe intterupt the air bag test sequence and thats why its staying on but the stereo should still come on after it starts, so maybe those two aren't on the same wire?

Its not a big deal and I am very happy with my results so far, would just be a little icing on the cake to have it 100% right where I could just RS, go out get in and turn the key to run and take off without having to kill and restart for everything to be right. I have driven the car a short distance from RS without killing to reset and it didnt seem to affect anything else. Transmission shifted normal, etc. I have heard some simlilar stories where the airbag light stayed on and transmission acted up.

Also, stereo isnt an issue really if its not related to the air bag, I dont need the stereo on when RS lol so If its a seperate issue not worried about making it work without the key. It is aftermarket and is wired with a factory type adapter, to function like factory.


Edit--- When I get done completely with everything functioning exactly how it should, I will post diagrams and wiring guide for anybody else looking to do this. I also have Instructions on how to bypass the Theft system at the BCM to get rid of the factory crap as long as its currently able to start. Will explain that and where my info came from on the rest. I took several guides and checked them against eachother to fix mistakes made on diagrams and checked each and every wire. I then combined a known good list with the wiring colors from the alarm for everything I needed, it shows wire function, plug location, wire color, car side wire color, and car wire location. Basically just go down the list, find the function/color from alarm, go across- find car wire color/location, etc.

Let me say one more thing for this particular alarm---- Two way alarms/remotes are friggin awesome!!!!!!

You should only have to wire up one of the pink, orange, and green wires. You did get this at the switch next to the radio correct? Make sure you have them right. It sounds like you have either one of the ignition and/or accessory wires. This is a very simple car to do a remote starter on. I think you need to double check the basics. Make sure the remote starter is energizing the correct wires when it needs to. The radio shouldn't be on unless you want to hook up the brown wire as a 2nd accessory.
