yea i've heard of this sock method, i hear the black ones work best hehe j/p
but i know someone else had a sock right on the throttle body for awhile and they said it ran fine, basically a sock acts like a filter, but no filter = dead engine, cuz tons of crap and bad air will enter the tube then the throttle body

marc os did the sock mod for a while

and my friend with a 95 civic lx just took it right off the airbox, and told me "why do I need a filter, it sits under the hood so wheres the dust gonna come from.

His car was hilarious, he bought a bra cause he sideswiped someone fucking up the hood bumper and taking out the corner lense, and the bra was cheaper than fixing the car!

I've heard that if you spray water directly into the engine it will cool the petrol and run a lot faster - at least 2 seconds off your time.

yeah - that's about the level of seriousness I hope the original poster had. CAI's only work if fitted properly -if exposed to engine heat you lose power, not gain it - just in case it was a serious question. And no - it will do very little to power at the wheels... by itself.

Setanta's talking about water vapor injection.
Notice, that's not water, it's water vapor. You have to make a device with a chamber exactly like a bong, so that the water becomes vaporized.
Air with water vapor has a higher density. When that vapor/air mixture hits your cylinder, it raises the compression just a tiny bit.
Have you ever noticed your car runs better on cloudy, moist days, or just after it has rained?
Vapor injection was used in WWII planes to get the engines to put out more horsepower at high altitudes where the oxygen content is much lower.
But if it made a really noticeable difference, wouldn't we be seeing every guy at the dragstrip and the autocross with one?

i was always under the assumption that the water vapor did more to cool the engine down to prevent detionation so you can run a higher boost or a higher compression with out the detonation... its not something you see all too often though...
