2002 subwoofers

anybody know exactly what the rear deck subwoofer speakers are? are they simply a normal 6x9 speaker with a low frequency amp on them. i've been asking around and keep getting told that there is no such thing as a 6x9 rear deck subwoofer. the speaker nomenclature is:

my right one is blown apart and i want to replace them, maybe upgrade a step or two, but i don't want to buy a coax or triax speaker, i want the subwoofer sound.

i found people selling them on ebay and craigs list but nah. too much drama if they don't work. i would rather buy them new with a warranty.

THE REPLACEMENT FORD PART NUMBER FOR THE REAR SUBS. YOU WILL ONLY FIND THIS AT FORD. THEY COST ABOUT $60.00 EACH:

Re: 2002 subwoofers

Unless you have the LS Sport version, the speakers in the front of the luggage compartment are subwoofers and are powered from a subwoofer amplifier which is also located in the front of the luggage compartment. To me, that would translate to the rear package tray. Aren't the rear main speakers located in the rear doors? The factory service manual just lists them as "rear, behind trim panel" and my wife recently traded off her 2002 LS so I don't have it for reference any more.

Re: 2002 subwoofers

i have the alpine system with 8 speakers. a speaker on all four doors, two tweeters in the front and two subs on the rear deck. an amp runs the subs. I ran the diagnostic speakers test and the r rear sub sounds really bad. again, im confused because im getting mixed answers on whether there is a aftermarket replacement for the sub. The stereo shops tell me there is no such thing as a 6x9 deck mount subwoofer. they tell me its just a regular speaker with a low freq amp on it.

There is such a thing as 6x9 subs. Parts Express has sone and you might be able to find them at MCM Electronics as well.

true. i found one at ford for $52 per speaker. even they had trouble believing that its a sub. funny, a guy on ebay wants $149 for a pair of two that came from a 2001. ..AND $59 shipping. ...thats just all kinds of wrong!

Re: 2002 subwoofers

OK I bought a new replacement sub woofer today. What ever happened to butterfly nuts holding the speaker up for easy removal? Nope, this car has to be the opposite. Looks like the deck has to come completely off to replace the speaker. Any assistance on correctly removing that rear deck would be greatly appreciated. I even get to clean the window behind the upper brake light and heat the window tint to get rid of some air bubbles while I'm at it.

coolness!
