Installing an after market CD player in my K1500
I was considering installing an after market cd player in my 1992 K1500. I was wandering how would i go about it where do i start? It looks to me like it will fit right in the "hole" underneath the two center air vents on the dash. But i dono if it will need a spacer or anything and i dont know where to even begin on the wiring of it. So any help at all would be appreciated
Thanks Wesley |

Have you looked at Crutchfield? They have many many options specific to different vehicles.

Re: Installing an after market CD player in my K1500
If i dont have a tape player in my pickup currently will that make a difference. I bought a cd player for my pickup and there is a ton of wires. If i remember correctly there was not even near as many wires going into my radio. So will it even work?

Did you purchase it from Crutchfield? If so they can provide complete instructions for installation.

antenna connection ,ground, battery positive, ignition positive , lighting positive... best use the interface connector for your vehicle so that these are connected correctly...best not to cut up the oem wiring harness... |

Re: Installing an after market CD player in my K1500
No i bought it from Best Buy because on Crutchfield the same one was 100 bucks and at Best Buy it was on sale for 50 bucks. And i know they are all the same but the cd player i bought has wires for each individual speaker and a bunch of other stuff as well so im not to sure. And as far as cutting up the factory wiring harnes thats going to have to happen because there is no plug in point, the wires are all sodered directly to my factory radio. Unless im missing something and there is an actual plug in the wiring harness farther back that i can see when i take the radio out.

Re: Installing an after market CD player in my K1500
Like Jcat said, you to identify the wires and connect them. If you dont want to cut the factory connector, just splice into the wires above the plug. I realize Crutchfield is more expensive, but you normally get all the connectors needed to finish the install as well as instructions, is why I use them.

Best Buy should have the harness adapter you need...give them the yr, make & model. ~$15.

Re: Installing an after market CD player in my K1500
most of the newer cd palyers have extra wires for options that our truck do not, power antena, excetra. get the adapther plate for the tape section, the littly cubby hole to replace the old radio, and a wiring harness. should only be about a hour job, if you have any wiring experiance. just follow the wiring digram that comes with the radio

Re: Installing an after market CD player in my K1500
I found my adapter plate and harness on ebay for around $25. Depending on what player you go with you may need to remove or modify the tape player bracket in the dash.
