Jeep dies when driving

I everyone, I am having very strange symptoms with my Jeep. I have very little electrical experience so perhaps I can get some solid advice as to why may be the problem.

Car turns off while in drive. Electricity still works, radio is on, but engine has turned off and the "Check Engine" light comes on. This usually happens at random times after stopping at a light or a stop sign and then accelerating forward. Within 15 seconds, the engine dies. I am able to restart it after I stop and put it in park, sometimes takes a few tries, but it starts. Last time I restarted it, there was a smell of burnt hair that filled the inside of the car. A/C was turned off on the restart, don’t really know where the smell was coming from.
