O2 Sensor and Trans codes...also some interesting behavior after an oil change.
OK, I'll start with the trouble codes. I don't remember exactly what they are, but one was for the Oxygen Sensor in Bay 1 Sensor 2 (not sure where that is located), and the other was for transmission slippage (in 4th gear i believe). The Check Engine light first came on after i drove it around 60mph in drive and not OD a couple months ago. Not sure if that really caused it to throw a code, but it ran at a higher RPM for a couple miles. It also idles rough when in gear at a stop, and lightens up in park or neutral. I was thinking maybe the trans needs flushed, maybe the filter changed, but the fluid seems to be alright. I bring up the O2 sensor, hoping that it could be something a little easier and cheaper than replacing a sensor (cleaning something, like i've seen frequently, or maybe it's not actually the O2 Sensor for some reason).
This next bit just sounds typical for me, as I had random problems with my 93 Lumina before the left-front axle broke clean off at 70mph, and maybe it is something some of you have run into before. I changed my oil a couple days ago, and everything was fine after i drove about 20-25 miles, until i stopped for gas. After filling up, the car did not want to start. I had noticed that it was getting hotter quicker than it usually does when i'm in traffic, so I let it sit for about 10 minutes and it started again. I then drove another 30 or so miles, turned the car off again, and it took about 20 minutes before it would start again. It did this again later on that night, and it almost felt like it could have been the starter. I'm not sure if there is a correlation between my trouble codes and that situation, or if i knocked something loose while changing the oil (since i believe the starter is close to the oil filter). It was just a little strange because it had never done that before after an oil change, and I figured someone here might have some answers before I spend money I don't have making all kinds of repairs. Thanks!
