GTP Coolant Leak
Hello I have 2003 Grand Prix GTP I've replaced the 2 elbows, waterpump, previously. I am to getting antifreeze puddles around the top of the engine, I tried a pressure test connecting to the radiator but nothing could not see or hear a leak. Also I'm losing a antifreeze in the resivoir consistently. Question is I'm not a mechanic but tackled many jobs, (fuel pumps in-tank and carb, wheelbearing etc) what size sockets and or torque specs are required to do the job right the first time. Basically I don't know what to ask exactly but any reference of information would be greatly appreciated I read that these are real common on 3.8's sc or na. A detailed explanation would suffice greatly thanks.

Re: GTP Coolant Leak
Your post has been moved to its own thread since the thread you posted reached resolution.
How many miles do you have? Where exactly are the coolant puddles? Since you are losing coolant internally most likely the supercharger gaskets to include internal o-ring seals and throttle body gasket and/or lower intake manifold gaskets. What detailed info are you looking for. Doing a UIM and LIM job?

Re: GTP Coolant Leak
My gtp is 2003 bought it with 75000 in 2008, now at 95000, checked oil no coolant deposits, it pools around the injectors majority of the leak is around the passenger front like it drips down to that side, when I turn the heat on i smell coolant one time I made a sharp right turn with the heat on and lots of smoke came from under my hood only does it when the heat is on though that sounds wierd? Temp sometimes goes close to 210, but if i'm movin it drops down even with heat or ac on.I don't know if its a UIM or LIM gasket but I do know coolant is coming out on top of the motor, I did think it was the water pump but there is no residue at the weephole or around there at all. What are these cars common for. I know someone had this issue before also the two hoses coming out of heater core are fine as well they connect to idle control pulley I think. Is changing the UIM and LIM difficult I think it's near the supercharger but I'm not sure! That's the closest description I can give you.

Re: GTP Coolant Leak
Sounds like the Lower intake gaskets. Mine blew and came out the top of the motor near the injectors. It would flow down the passenger side of the motor and pool right next to the elbow on top of the waterpump area. Same place as yours. Replacing the LIM gaskets on mine fixed the issue. 95-100K miles is right around where mine blue too.

Re: GTP Coolant Leak
GM sells an upgraded aluminum framed design LIM gasket which is what I currently have. Some people have issues with valley gasket oil leaks after installing the new GM ones, so its probably best to stick with fel-pro replacements. Its your call.
You will need LIM gaskets, Supercharger gasket, 2 supercharger to LIM o-rings, fuel injector o-rings, oil and filter, and coolant. Best thing you can do is to make sure you torque everything correctly. Here is a link to when I replaced mine. http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=951637

Re: GTP Coolant Leak
OoooHHH okay It looks like the hardest part of the removal is the supercharger itself well depending on the weather newcaster talking about thunderstorms I will get started were there any problems prior to removing the supercharger like the charger fluid, did you leave the throttle body attached during removal? Basically any known challenges besides the actual job itself also you say the dealer has an aluminum gasket but ppl have had issues with them does a local autoparts store got a good gasket like pepboys, napa, etc....?

Re: GTP Coolant Leak
When you remove the supercharger you do not need to remove the SC fluid or remove the snout. Actually the easiest part is removing the fuel injection system rails and supercharger. The hardest part if you are a novice or first timer is removing the lower intake manifold to replace the two port and two end seal gaskets and putting that part back together again. You can leave the throttle body attached at initial removal and then once supercharger is off remove the throttle body to replace the seal. The most important part of the job is proper cleanup to include removing any old gasket material before reassembly.
The FelPro brand LIM gaskets which come in a kit work and last fine compared to the revised GM aluminum framed port gaskets.

Re: GTP Coolant Leak
sorry everyone but the manifold gasket is a definite hard job to do, I attempted to take all the lines and connectors apart only to find out how hard it would be putting it all back together I'm taking it to the shop for this one!
