broken boot (torn boot)

so i was rotating my tires today when the bastards at discount tire broke a lug nut. they sent me to midas and while my car was on the jack the guy pointed out that my boots where broken. specifically it's only the 2 boots closest to the wheels. he gave me an estimate of $337. $25 per bushing and then labor up my ass. i don't know a lot about this area of the car so any help would be appreciated. i know i need to get it done so my whole axle doesn't get ruined. i'm probably going to take it into the local nissan shop. any ideas? comments? advice? thanks

what do you mean by a broken boot?
are your boots torn?
if there torn you can just replace the boot.

yes they're torn not actually broken. the guy described them as broke so i just went with that. he said the boots need to be replaced and repacked.

boulder nissan (local nissan dealership) just quoted me $280 plus taxes. is this just evidence of the stealership or is this a reasonable price?

$280 for what?
a brand new axle?
just replace the boot that is torn, and regrease the bearings.

andrew-yeah both are torn (broke)

gtrider-how hard is it to replace/regrease. i don't have a lot of experience (read none) doing this. i can do basic stuff (change oil, install intake, etc) but is this harder than that. also do i need to jack the car up high or will regular jack stands work. i'll check around the internet tomorrow for some additional info, but your input is appreciated-thanks.

its pretty easy if you have all the tools needed.
a regular jack and jack stands would work.

check this page out.

i made an appt to get it done at boulder nissan, but i'm still pondering doing it myself. if i do do it myself i want a haynes manual (nissan primera manual since G20 manual doesn't exist). my question is-how safe is it to drive around with 2 torn boots? my dad said i need to get it fixed before winter b/c of the gravel/sand on the roads. am i okay waiting for my haynes manual from england and driving around w/ the torn boots (btw i drive around 250 miles a week).

i replace both my axles( which includes inner and outer boots) for $120 and that includes replacing the tranny seals. Its not hard as a matter of fact its sraight forward. I just took things off and put them back on. I didn't need a manual or anything. I got my parts from Autozone. If you do any work on your car you can do this.
