Subaru Legacy???

Im just curious, how come no one ever builds these cars up? My roommate just got one, and it seems pretty quick. Its a 2001 GT, with 165 hp I think, and it beat my stock 99 EX by about 2-3 car lengths last night. It seems like with Subaru reliability, and a fair amount of engine power, more people would be racing this car. Is it not cool enough? Too hard to build up? What do you guys think?

Yeah thats true, but in Japan there are tons of parts available for the Legacy B4 Twin Turbo, so you would think there would be a lot of JDM and aftermarket parts from japan available.

the older legacy gt, like 90 or so are pretty quick...you can find them with a stock turbo and awd...theyre just hard to come by these days

I have heard rumours that in 2005, Subaru will be bringing the Legacy STi to the States. Dunno about HP, but it'll have a turbo-charged inline-six (a'la Supra/Skyline).

there is alot of JDM for it i know OBX makes a intake for it i've driven them and there a bit heavy for there power but the old mans wagon with the 2.5 is fugging fast hes buried the spedo and thats stock hes thinking of a t3/t4 for her and some OZ 18s. Once that new one comes out there might be some aftermarket for it. oh and the HP for the BLitzin Legacy in 2005 will be 400 ish (what C&D said)

legacy wagons are alright, we have a 1998 legacy wagon, and a 99' forester, personally I'd take the forester first against any car, for the body weight, and also that it has a slightly bigger "sports" engine in it.. also the wagon seems to have lost it's punch that it once had.. used to be when you slammed the gas (it's an automatic) you'd get an instant pull as it switched into 3rd, and the o/d kicked in, but it's kinda sluggish in that area now, and needs time to build up rpm's in higher gears.. the forester also has a punchy accelerator, just tap that baby and that thing will take off.
I do think subaru's are good cars to "rev up" but I'd suggest getting standard transmission, and build it up yourself from stock. Aftermarket parts are for when you don't want to fabricate your own parts. a lot of show cars and hot rods out there have all custom fabricated parts, and they most definitly look it. helps if you (own/have access to) a metal shop though...
And subaru's transmissions/drivetrains last forever.. like those old 80's subaru's I see putting around all the time. take good care of subaru's and they last forever..

i'm from new zealand. we have loads of subarus here, lots of ej20t legacys, 4wd 2ltr turbo straight from the factory with water to air intercooler, the wrx is light and goes better tho so people tune them more, look in australia if u want performance parts, they send them down the quarter mile in under 10 seconds there.
