Tranny issue

not sure if my trans is shot or Not, I was going up a hill heard a loud whistle and then lost all drive ! NO fluid on the ground,
But yet There's NO DIP STICK !! just a fill port.
The car does stay in park Never slipped Nothing just a whistle and Done on a hill. any Ideas Before I get taken for a full rebuild. I know on the older trucks I have had there's a vacum modulator or something that has gone bad and on me , and did give the appearance of a blown tranny.
I am hopping its something I can do posibly myself with out removing the whole engine. the car has 147000, I bought it brand new and this is the first major problem I ever had. so its safe to say I took pretty good care of it maint. wise. The car is a 2001 pontiac grand am 4 cyl, 4 dr, with 148000 miles
Thanks for any feed back I can receive
John

Re: Tranny issue

Take the car to a transmission shop and have it diagnosed. They should be able to tell you what is going on and you may not need a full rebuild.

Re: Tranny issue

thought my tranny foze too - even mechanic over the phone said seems like it's the problem (and he's darn good). Took it to him - turns out it was the speed sensor that went... Needless to say i was happy it was just that
