'94 brake line.

I have a busted brake line somewhere in the chassis heading to the back of the car. Does any one know if it is a steel or rubber line running through the chassis to the junction block on the differential? Either way, how do I remove it to inspect and replace? Is it worth replacing, or should i just close the line and use only my front brakes? My baby is immobile until I fix it. Well it's mobile, but it doesn't stop being mobile if you get my drift. Thanks!

Sounds like the metal hardline rusted out. Seen it happen a few times usually right below the b-pillar. If you try and splice in a new piece expect a new leak to form nearby. Basically looking at having to replace the whole line.

So the line going to the back should be ok then? I just have to replace the line coming from the booster? I am not even sure what I am looking at. I've had then lines to the calipers break, but never one of these. Is this something an amateur garage mechanic should attempt?

this line in the rear is difficult to access..you can splice in a section to replace the rusted section..being a rust belt vehicle, and your not experienced you should have a repair shop replace the steel line from the front to the rear junction block...


It all depends on the steel lines condition to replace the complete line ..if the line is all rusted you must replace it all..

then inspect and replace the other rusted lines...the front line if it blows you will have very little brake effort..

you will need a double flare tool and have working knowledge on using this correctly. if not don't do it.

I meant the rear line, and have yet to see one that just rusted in one spot. A friend tried the splice thing and ended up replacing the whole line afterwards because it just sprung a new leak 3 feet away IMMEDIATELY. The flexing of the line to get the tools on it weakened another section further down.

I would have a shop do it. I don't suggest using shops for much either.
