2005 engine type

Hi guys, I bought a malibu and was wndering what tupe of engine they have. I forgot the exact term but here is the explanation. If the timing belt is not installed appropriately, the pistons might hit the block and the engine is garbage. In another type of engine, the only problem is performance. I hope my explanation was clear.

Another thing. Does this engine use timing chain or timing belt.
