Need help for my 1988 Toyota pick up

Need help with my 1988 Toyota Pick up truck, Has the 22RE Engine Auto

I was driving it to friends house and it stalled out on me, i try starting it back up and it started to go and the engine really wanted to stay going but then quit again... so i try again and it turns over but engine isnt trying to fire up... let it stand for 3 mins try to start again and it starts to run for about 5sec then quits again, sounds like its not getting gas only little at a time and there is half a tank.

Any help would be great, this is my only vehicle for work and dont have the money to pay someone to find it out for me, im thinking it might be a clogged fuel filter or something to do with the fuel pump ?

thanks and hope to get some help.

Re: Need help for my 1988 Toyota pick up

Does the 22RE have the air-flow "volometer" (whatever it's called) built into the air intake?

My v6 has this directly above the air filter. It has a large, flat wire connector attached. It went out once and had the kind of severe, immediate fuel-starvation symptom you describe. Pressing on the gas just a little and it would stall.

The reason I mention it: it seems odd to me for a fuel filter to clog immediately unless you just filled it with gas and got some really dirty gas. Usually these clog over time and manifest their restriction under heavier loads (cruising at speed, accelerating hard). For it to be so suddenly sensitive, it seems like it would be something like I described above, or a catastrophic failure with the fuel pump?

Does it die even at idle? Or, only when driving/accelerating?

(PS: If you edit those 3 duplicate posts you'll see a button to delete them.).

Re: Need help for my 1988 Toyota pick up

PS : Right before i took the Truck out i stuck a hoose down into the gas tank to get some gas out for my atv, maybe it mixed the dirt up in it and got it clogged.

Re: Need help for my 1988 Toyota pick up

Your problem could be several things in addition to a clogged filter-
vac leaks in the air intake system
bad Ckt Opening rly
bad fuel press regulator

To check fuel pump, shotr the Fp and +B terminals in the test connector, turn key to On position. You should be able to feel the press in the fuel line at the filter input or the cold start injector.

Re: Need help for my 1988 Toyota pick up

If you fed 12V directly to it, it should work.
Check the wiring to be sure, before pulling the pump.
