Subara Impreza WRX STi

Today I picked up a new project beside the VW Samba Bus.

I found this Subaru Impreza WRX from Tamiya, which is a very nice kit.

The kit contains a lot of nice details like multipiece rearlights (which are molded in clear plastic) windowmasks and metal transfers.

The original wheels looks O.K. but some aftermarket wheels will fitt better
These Aoshima Enkei GTC 01 wheels will suit the car best.

The bodywork will be painted with a VW/Audi paint. This is Blue Anthracite mixed at Hiroboy.

For some extra detail, I ordered a PE set from Hobby Design.

I hope to start tomorrow.

Kris.

Re: Subara Impreza WRX STi

Yesterday I primed the body after some sanding and scribing the panellines.

Today I painted the parts and body with 2 layers of color.

Maybe I'll add some nice decals (just a few) or i'll just clearcoat it without decals...

Kris.

Re: Subara Impreza WRX STi

It would look cool if you put a flat clear on it, for something different

Haha I heard that comment often
To bad there are some ghostlines in that molding, cause the plastic is a bit metallic likely.

Anyway....

Today I added some Enkei decals on the frontdoors and also added the metal transfer on the thrunk. I also added the STi decals on the foglight covers.

The wheels are also clearcoated.

The clear I used is Zero Paints 2K Clear.

When it's fully dry, I'll polish some minor dusts away.

Kris.

Re: Subara Impreza WRX STi

Last weekend, I had a 24 hours during groupbuild.

I first started with polishing the body. After that I masked of the body, and painted the windowtrims. I think I never ever have painted them so smooth.

There was some bad light, so I couldn't make any nice pics. They are a bit to dark.

I also painted the windows.

The interior got some Tamiya primer by airbrush:

For the interior I used the original colors Tamiy mentioned in the instructions. Seats are a mix of xf-1 and xf-63 and the middle is painted xf-8.
The sidepanels, dash and midconsole are painted xf-63.

I used some light grey flocking, and addes some pe on the midconsole, pedals and displayconsole.

Re: Subara Impreza WRX STi

I've done some things last days.

I started painting the PE plates semigloss black. When it was dry I sanded them so the logo's will be silver. A bit of clearcoat to protect them, and then I glued them on the original plastic plateholders.

I cutted out the plastic grille and replaced it with a PE version. Then I painted it semigloss black, and added the logo. I also added some PE mesh for the radiator/intercooler.

The headlights are first painted semigloss black after some liquid masking. After removing the masking I got some nice chrome areas. Now I added some glasses and did the same with the foglights. I was not sure if I must use the foglight covers, but in the end I did used them...

The body received some lights:

The hoodscoop assembled:

And a dryfit so far:

Now on to the chassis. Which is almost completed now.

Kris.
