Help needed installing new door speakers!!

well I have my door covers off right now, and I removed the factory speakers to find they have their own little shell around them... and this shell will not accomodate the new 200 watt 3-way pioneers that I just bought. I was wondering if from anyones experience that cutting this spacer shell will affect the sound very badly if I were to cut it, because I can't just flush mount the speaker to the door or it interferes with the power windows, I had that on my old mercury tracer when I put in sony Xplodes on the doors, and started to crank the window down for the first time... If I was to cut the shell, should I just cut around where the magnet were to stick out, and keep some of it's acoustical value, or should I just cut it so it looks like a ring?, or even better wait till the morning, go to the hardware store, and buy a bunch of rubber washers, and some longer screws to hold them onto the shell? Any help would be great

The plastic shell is very common in hondas. There are two things you can do pop the shell out via popping the rivets with a panel popper, then checking depth with the window down see if you have the clearence of the magnet. if not build a speaker ring out of mdf and use it as a spacer it is also a good idea if you are going to do this to dynamat the inside of your door or use a foam baffle on the back of it. IF your shell isn't pop riveted in place just remove the 4 screws.

Get plastic speaker spacers and foam baffles at www.crutchfield.com

From your description of the speakers, it sounds like they have massive magnet on the rear to handle such power. You should have checked your space first before getting the speakers. Crutchfield also have speaker fitment guide for all cars. Good Luck!:flash:
