Braking issue until the check advancetrac light comes on
We are having a weird issue with our 2000 LS, when you press the brake pedal the brakes seem to pump on and off as if the ABS was kicking in when it's not needed. This happens for a little while until the check Advancetrac light comes on then braking is back to normal. My wife said is happened a few times before we had the winter tires taken off and an alignment done now it happens every time we start the car.
Any ideas what could be causing this? Is there any way to disable advancetrac? Would it be bad disabling it? |

Re: Braking issue until the check advancetrac light comes on
Hey, haven't had this type of problem with my LS, but a similar thing happened to my mom's escape. The right front brake wasn't releasing which caused the brake to be on all the time. I imagine, this could be severe enough to lock up one of the back brakes on the LS. anyways, i took the wheel off and vented the caliper while applying the brake. fluid came out so i know the brakes are working. i tried to turn the tire after applying the brake and releasing, it was stuck. so i vented the caliper a little without applying the brake, the caliper let go of the brake pad and i could spin the tire. so, long story short, the flexible brake hose that goes to the caliper had collapsed. i replaced it, vented the caliper while pumping the brakes really well to get the air out, and problem was solved. Like i said, may not be what you're experiencing, but it looked familiar.

Re: Braking issue until the check advancetrac light comes on
Since your Advancetrac light comes on I suspect you have a wheel speed sensor or some other issue in the ABS system. If you can find a friend or shop that can scan the ABS system it should point you in the right direction. It will need to be an ABS-compatible scan tool though, the consumer-grade powertrain scan tools cannot access the ABS system.
