New to Jetta wolfsburg

I am a new user for Volkswagen or should I say to euro car. I bought this car for a very cheap price and it seem good..but there is a miner problem to the car. Whenever I shift my car my shift knob seem so loose, "waggie I mean"
sometime it's hard to put into gear 1. It happen every now and then. I don't know why. the last owner was a female and she took good care of it and so did I.
Please help me out I want to learn more about euro cars and hopefully this will last me for a very long time. Thank you
