2005 scion xb water pump gasket question?

Hi guys,
i need help with my other car and i dont know where else to get adivice. i have a 2005 scion xb and im in the process of putting in a new water pump. i bought a new water pump at autozone and i was checking out the paper gasket that came with it i accidentally broke it. I know it sounds crazy but it was so brittle that it just split in two.
so when i pulled the old water pump out it had a metal gasket. my question is can i reuse the used metal gasket? I thought if i did reuse the metal gasket that i could use some permatex ultra 2 sealant on each side of it to make sure there was no leaks. what do u guys think?
