97 bogs when gas is pushed
Hi, I have a 97 that acts like it is running out of fuel when throttle is pushed. The fuel pressure at the injectors remains 38-40 when pushed (30 when I let off the throttle)
It acts like a car runing out of fuel , if it's babied it will run fine or if it is ran at about 3/4 throttle it runs strong. Many times though at WOT it bogs down for many seconds. If you let off then floor it again it might run perfect the seciond time it is floored. It will run well over 100 mph with 40 psi pressure even whn acting up. My scanner is very basic and can't see a lot of info , the only thing I notice is the fuel trim is generally at +15-25%. I see nothing out of the ordinary cold or hot. It'll act up in closed loop or open loop. Any ideas on how to further diag this? (or what may be wrong with?) Thanks. |

Re: 97 bogs when gas is pushed
Check what the specs are for fuel pressure, most fuel injected engines run around 50psi

Re: 97 bogs when gas is pushed
Since the fuel trim is unusually high, check for a vacuum leak. Also clean the MAF sensor with CRC MAF Cleaner. If the MAF wire is dirty it will not read accurately.

Re: 97 bogs when gas is pushed
Thanks for responses. The book said 35-40 psi. I will clean the maf and check for vac leaks (I don't think there are any)

Re: 97 bogs when gas is pushed
It was the MAF , it had a bunch of fuzz on it. I was going to clean it last week , but didn't have any safety torx bits. I cleaned it today and it fixed it up so far. Thanks.

Re: 97 bogs when gas is pushed
Glad to hear it was an easy fix. You can usually clean it off without having to remove it from the MAF housing. I just spray some compressed air and then some MAF Cleaner at it with the hose and top of the airbox still attached to the housing.
