03 cavalier stuck in reverse

hi, im new to the forum, i searched for this and couldnt find anything so im posting here, hope its the right place....my 03 automatic cavalier is stuck in reverse. i backed out of the driveway, put the car in drive, pushed the gas and was still in reverse, i turned the car off and obviously it didnt start back up, so...im guessing its come lose in there somewhere (link, chain, etc.), but i have no idea, im hoping its not the transmission, any help would be appreciated, thanks

Re: 03 cavalier stuck in reverse

well i found the problem just in case somebody else runs into this problem. its a little o-ring looking thing that broke out of the connector from the gears in the engine and the cord to the gear shifter inside the car. if that makes sense. cant find another "o-ring" so i have to get the whole cord out of a car at the junkyard(hopefully). and the rest of the old "o-ring" would not come out of the connector on either side, so im guessing it wont come out of the new cord...its a hassle needless to say

edit: shift gear linkage is what its called. im on the road again
