Let me start with the current problems, my car will not turn off, my gas, and battery gages along with my abs light, oil level light will not turn on unless my dimmer switch is turned on, and that’s only sometimes, my antifreeze explodes from my reservoir when I have to turn off my car by unplugging my negative from battery and pull the fuel pump fuse…
My check engine light will not turn off unless I do unplug the battery completely. Heres what happened leading up to this.. I’m sorry it’s long please read it though… and please try to help if you can…. Thanks!!! Well, where to start.. When I bought it, it didn't have a CD player in it. instead it had a toggle switch connected to it because for some reason in order for my dash lights and speedometer to come on the wiring had to be connected to something. so when I had a friend install my CD player my dash lights still worked but over time just the digital speedometer got dimmer and dimmer, to the point to where it wouldn't even come on, so just yesterday I had the same guy that installed the CD player in my car uninstall it. He said he was just going to put the toggle switch that was in the car when I bought it back in well instead of doing that, he got to messing around with wires where my gas and break pedals are, and he said he put 2 wires together and it burnt his finger, and then the car wouldn't turn off. Now nothing is connected to those wires where the toggle switch used to be but my speedometer was on, but just really dim until my wife of all people started going through all the fuses on the side of my dash and found a wire connected in the fuse box with a fuse and saw that it was loose so she put it back in tighter and the speedometer came right back on and just as bright as ever. but in the process of this guy messing with the wiring, my car will not turn off due to the 2 wires he put together, and not only that but the gas gage, and all my lights like the check oil level, and abs(which i don't have connected so the abs light will stay on) even the battery gage will not turn on unless i have the dimmer switch turned on, but every now and then if I turn the dimmer switch on nothing happens, now my check engine light always stays on when I take the fuse to the fuel pump out unless I unplug the negative from the battery.. Can anyone figure this out, I’m thinking it could be the ignition switch, but I’m not sure if that would have anything to do with the dash lights and gages not working unless the dimmer switch is on(and only some of the time at that) then one more issue.. I have a on/off valve on one of the hoses from my antifreeze reservoir I’m not sure which hose it is, weather it’s the return or what, but it’s turned on and every time I turn off the car the way that I have to turn it off right now the cap blows off and antifreeze/water blows out of the reservoir is that on/off valve supposed to be on or off, because right now it’s on… please help me! |

Re: my 1994 chevy caprice will not turn off..
Sounds like you have an electrical nightmare under your dash created by the previous owner
![]() I would take the car to a shop that specializes in automotive electrical. They can usually find the problem faster than regular shops can therefore costing you less in the long run. As far as the exploding coolant reservoir when the battery is disconnected, Never heard of that one before ![]() Good luck

Re: my 1994 chevy caprice will not turn off..
since you lack the knowledge of repairs of vehicles. do not have the OEM manuals to follow the wiring and correct the damage/improper wiring and the many other mechanical issues , you should sell this vehicle as is ....
to correct just the wiring , may take several hundred dollars. valves on the coolant system is a very strange one for sure ...the person who did this work must be very dangerous...you should not drive this vehicle ... |
