running rough

i was a work today, Driver for JJs, and at the end of my shift my 96 neon wanted to stall out, even when i was in neutral. i had to keep the RPM up so i could feather the clutch into my parking spot. i drove it a little way before it konked out. it was a hard start after that. i popped the hood and looked at it a bit and i pushed down on the coil pack and it seemed to run a little more consistent. i got it started and got home real fast, really hammering on it... after i got home the car seemed to run fine. it was really odd. has any else had a problem like this? i figured id do a compression test tomorrow.... but is there anything i should look out for? my first thought was bad gas.... but i have a feeling like it's going to be a little more than that....

Re: running rough

I did have a similer problem with a 95 neon and like yours after i gave it sometime it seemed to go away until one day it just stopped running. Can you hear the fuelpump comming on? If it happens again try turing the key on and off a few times to build the fuel pressure and than try starting it.....the eletric motor in your fuelpump may be going bad.

Re: running rough

i know the fuel pump is running and it gets fuel pressure.... that is sure. right now it seems to run fine. hopefully it was jsut bad gas and not a fuel pump. how much did yours cost to replace?
