1994 Sierra 1500 Stuck Valves????

I have a 1994 GMC Sierra 1500 With the 5.7L 350, On Cylinder 1 and 3 i have a stuck valves on each of them. I'm not sure which one is the exhaust and which one is the intake but 1 valve on both cylinders 1 and 3 are stuck! I've been spraying a very small amount of WD-40 to try to loosen it up but when i put i vice grip they wont twist at all, so i'm not sure what to do, I don't want to have to pull the heads so any ideas?????? Thanks

How did these valves stick in the guides in a running engine? A peice of the puzzle is missing here, no? Could be bent, even if you free them up it will happen again, I'd pull the head and see what is what.

Re: 1994 Sierra 1500 Stuck Valves????

Well i want to loosen them at least so i can twist them, if i can twist them and push them up and down, then i should be able to tell if there bent, without having to pull the heads, lol i'm trying at this point to avoid that, any suggestions on how to loosen my valves?

Re: 1994 Sierra 1500 Stuck Valves????

I have never heard of any one doing this, I assume you have the valve spring and retainer off and are attempting to turn or move the valve in the guide, they are stuck open? This is why you are doing this? What is the original issue, no compression in those cylinders/

Re: 1994 Sierra 1500 Stuck Valves????

Well i bought it from a guy who let it sit for 2 years, and he didn't take very good care of it, it seemed like the oil wasn't changed properly and a few other things and then after i bought it, i drove it for a few days and it just kept running worse and worse. So i took off the Valve covers and and i had Broken push rods on cylinders 1 and 3, before that though i took it to a shop and they told me i was getting low compression on those cylinders, so thats why i took off the valve covers. But yes i have the springs off. And i'm just trying to figure out if they are bent without taking off the head.

If you cannot pull the valve up even with the others more than likely they are bent, or very carboned up which is very unlikely.

Re: 1994 Sierra 1500 Stuck Valves????

Well i got them to twist a little and was able to pull them up even with the other valves, so i'm guessing that they are carboned up. So what is my next course of action, because the WD-40 is helping but very minimally?

Re: 1994 Sierra 1500 Stuck Valves????

Never done this this way but get some top engine cleaner, and squirt it on the valves maybe a good soak will work, but as I said this is very unusual.
