Towing
I have a 1999 Cherokee Sport that I want to tow on a two wheel dolly with my motorhome.
Other than installing a brake controller, strapping the front wheels securely to the dolly, and putting the automatic transmission in neutral, is there anything else I need to do or precautions I should take before towing? Also, I see Jeep Wranglers flat-towed behind motorhomes more than any other vehicle. Is this my imagination or is there something about those vehicles that make them more conducive to long tow-trips? Thanks, John |

Re: Towing
It is VERY important that you put the transfer case in neutral.
Most automatic transmissions react very badly when towed long distances, when the engine is not running. The lack of pressurized lubrication means that the moving parts can be starved of oil and be damaged. However, the Cherokee, Wrangler and some other SUV's have a neutral position in the transfer case, which allows for long-distance towing without damage. |

If the gear shift for the rear wheels is in neutral, is that enough to not damage the transmission or differential? Thanks again for your input, John |

Re: Towing
You still need to put the transfer case in NEUTRAL other wise you will burn up the transmission. Check owners manual for towing instructions.

Re: Towing
+1000; transfer case in neutral, or damage will result!
