Any way to do a "Reboot" on a computer?

I changed my motor on a 97. I was thinking about all the stuff that could be slightly different on this motor.

Take the TPS. A few years a go, when I put in a new TPS, I remember reading it has to kind of relearn what exact position the new one is in. Can't explain it very good right now, but something like that.

Also, when it went out, the system went into "limp-mode".

When I put the newer motor in, what if it's set for where the other TPS was at?
I'm just using the TPS as an example, what about other sensors set to the original car?

On a PC, you can reboot the system. Is there an equivalent I can do on a car PCM?

What if my car, after blowing up, went into some kind of limp mode? If it gets a good signal, does it go out of limp-mode?

Not sure if I'm able to convey my thoughts here, from what I'm thinking. I hope someone can understand what I'm trying to say and understand.

Once you disconnect the batter for a given length of time the PCM should reset...

But being that you replaced the Motor you should have a Crank Variation Learn Sequence done... Other than that the PCM should relearn with no real issues as long as all of the sensors are good...

When I replaced the motor, I put in a new Crank Position Sensor.
The relearn thing is so it doesn't misfire. I have no problem with misfiring.

The PCM is not going to know if the engine blew up... It won't even really know a rod is being pounded through the block... The Knock sensors will pick up what the PCM thinks is spark knock and retard the timing to the max trying to get rid of the knock... The computer has no idea it blowing up...

If everything is right the PCM should have no issues at all..

While I realize you don't have misfires. a crank variation should still be performed... And the relearn isn't so it doesn't misfire, its partly so that if it does misfire the PCM can pinpoint the misfire... without the relearn the PCM will not know where the misfire happened..

Are you sure you don't have a fuel pressure issue or exhaust restriction issue? Maybe a bad MAF?

These can all cause issues..... H body exhaust systems are pretty free flowing from the factory, its one of the reasons the H body made 205 HP and the GP made 195...

Thank you for the reply. I was thinking about how my lower was disconnected from the upper motor. When trying to start it, I used to blow fire out the top where you put the oil in because the timing gear was off.
