Cigarette Lighter Issue

Hi,

I have an issue with a 2004 Mazda 3 cigarette lighter adapter. Whenever I plug something into the adapter, the fuse blows. I'm not familiar with electrical issues. I would assume that there is a faulty ground somewhere? Could the adapter be bad? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
