Not a good weekend at the Mitty
Not a good weekend at the Mitty. Ran Friday and decided to make a change in the diff. from a 336 to a 355. Changed helped a lot. Picked up 3 sec. and the car felt great. Was looking forward to going out and running the first of two races. Started out of the pits and heard a noise that I knew was not right and went about another 100 feet and she started slipping. First thought it was the clutch but soon figured out it was either the rearend or the transmission. We put the car up on stands and figured out we had no 4th gear or reverse. Will get the transmission out this week and see what all broke. Thinking about going away from the Tremec Transmission.

Re: Not a good weekend at the Mitty
Mike, That explains alot. I was there on Sat. and saw you practice in the morning session. After lunch we walked down to the Pro pits and could not find you. You must have packed up and left before we got the the pits. Sorry to hear about your troubles. I know Gary has fitted one car with a Jerico, may be an option.

Re: Not a good weekend at the Mitty
I was parked next to Gary. Gary was very helpful and a really nice guy. As a matter of fact the whole team of men and drivers were great. I had the car covered and really put up a decent time Saturday morning not to know he car any better than we do yet. Gary has a Tremec sitting in the floor and I will probably put it in and re-build mine and see what happens from there. I would like to put a Jerico in put can't see spending the money right now. The Mitty was great this year but I had the monkey on my back and hopefully we can get on track real soon. I was going to do the SCCA National in 3 weeks but will pass on it for now. I plan on doing the test day if I have the car up and running and hope to go the VIR in June and Road America in July. I hope to pit with Gary. I really enjoyed being with them.

Re: Not a good weekend at the Mitty
I have the TKO in my car. I can not get into 4th and reverse. Slipping in all gears. Something broke. I heard something on Friday and could not pen point it. Saturday morning I never heard anything and going out from the pits I heard a loud pop and that was all she wrote. Not a good sound and DAMN sure not a good feeling. It happens and we all know it happens but that still doesn't make it any better.

Re: Not a good weekend at the Mitty
when you get your TKO rebuilt get some upgraded goodies inside. It doesnt cost anymore and should help.
I keep a spare tranny in the trailer (amongst other track replacements). Racing is mostly luck or being prepared. |

Re: Not a good weekend at the Mitty
It was not good. Hope to get it fixed this week or next. Talking to Gary Jones down in Hephzibah, GA and see what we can come up with. How are you running? Was over at Tiny's the other day and he was getting you ready.

Re: Not a good weekend at the Mitty
I did well at Road Atlanta about a month ago. Last weekend at Road Atlanta was basically rained out. Went out for about 20 minutes but it got nasty quick and memories of my wet-track-crash last year justified an early departure. Anyway, Peachstate has a DE in a couple of weeks that I'm going to and Chin a week or so after that. Should have the splitter and extended wing on by then and I'm anxious to see what difference it makes.

Re: Not a good weekend at the Mitty
you are going to need a new signature picture soon :-)
What splitter/wing design are you going with? Buy a set from Eric?

Re: Not a good weekend at the Mitty
I bought the supports from Eric but I changed my mind about installing them. His are added to the existing struts and the ones I'm putting on are a single piece. Probably nothing wrong with his setup, but I think I'll be more confortable with a single piece setup. As for the splitter, Tiny is building it. I played with the idea of making it myself, but hell, I don't have enough time to change the oil, let along build a splitter.

Re: Not a good weekend at the Mitty
i have a one piece design too. what does yours look like? is it what John Leverett @ PAD drew with me or something new?
Whats tiny doing for a splitter? get pics when you can. I am pretty happy with version 2 of my wing uprights and version 1 of the splitter...they have both been crashed TESTED!

Re: Not a good weekend at the Mitty
Squerly, I will be there for the one day Chin event on Monday as well.
Mike, Gary has a Trans rebuilder in Augusta that does all of his work. They are great to work with. I can give you there info if you like. David |
