Shelby Cobra 289 Targa Florio 1964 for Ferrari Expo 2010

Here some photos of the Cobra 289 Competition I did to display at the Ferrari Expo 2010. It is based on a old 1/24th Modelers Cobra 289 kit from Japan.

I did a special mix for the color because I decided the European cars at Targa Florio looked slightly lighter blue. Some reshaping of the body and thinning was required. This is Phil Hill's car wich was a DNF

For next years Ferrari Expo I will be doing several Carrera Pan America cars including a 1/43rd Ferrari and a 1/43rd Porsche. That will be the special theme along with the other normal road racing/F1/Indy/Lemans/Sportscar models at the show.

On to the model.

Beautiful model, looks perfect in details and stance, I have planned to do this same car(using as a base the Monogram model) but never come around to do it, your model have put the spark back on, just hope it turn out half as good as yours magnificent Cobra.

By the way GREAT Ferrari Model Expo Show, the models and the real cars selection was incredible!

Beautiful! The weathering is spot on and the color is well suited for the actual car it is representing.
The display base is great too.

You did a very good job on this one, Tom. I was looking at this model very closely at the Expo event and I have to say that the build looks perfect in every way!

Thanks for all the comments. I did thin out most of the body, open up all the doors and replace the vents wich are molded in on the kit. That is oil leaking from the engine bay. The car was a DNF. I have photos with the
oil coming out half way into the Targa Florio.

Hi Tom, cool build. i like it when people build DNF cars... and not only winners
The left rear tire looks as if it doesn't sit right on the rim?!

Cheers mate!

The paint looks weird in the first photo, but it has to be the photo or shadows. because all the rest look great. Love the details, overall a 10/10.

Yes, I agree. You made a very realistic looking model.

One question, how did you make these blue stripes on those tires?
Mine GT40 also had these on the real car but I tried but let it go.

Thank you. The Good Year blue streaks are available from Strada Sports. The decals sheet also has Firestone gold rings and Englebert/Pirelli/Dunlop
1950's and 1960's tire decals. Printing was done by Cartograf. They are great decals. The Strada sheet is alot like an old sheet Scale Designs made 10 years ago, but with better decal printing(I used Microscale).

Hey, thatīs a pretty cool build. The car with the fastest snake on the front-end is one of my absolute favourates. The paint, the weathering, the finish...Well done....
