I suspect the A/C amplifier in my 1999 Sienna LE is shot. The compressor clutch doesn't doesn't engage, even though the LED on the AC control button lights up.
![]() The compressor clutch winding measures 3.4 ohms, but isn't getting +12V. Does anyone out there know where the A/C amplifier is located in the vehicle? Anyone know of a source for refurbished or new A/C amplifier? ![]() p.s. it just went over 200K...going for 300!

Re: 1999 Sienna A/C amplifier
Looking at the diagrams for my 2003, you remove the passenger side "kick" panel that is located on the far right side.....
FIRST, remove the small plastic nut from the forward most area where the panel meets the carpet, then pull out the top.....straight back to release the clip at the top of it in the door frame.....then unclip from the door sill trim panel. Then remove the 2 10mm bolts from the bottom of the "#2 Finish Panel".....1 at each corner of the bottom.....then pull the bottom out slightly.....and pull the top straight out to release the clips across the top of it. The diagram shows the A/C amplifier to be at about the level of the glove box, to the right of it. That would put it OUT OF SIGHT in this picture......in the upper right corner of the picture. The silver box that you see in the picture is the ECM.

Re: 1999 Sienna A/C amplifier
Did the AC suddenly stop working or was there a gradual decrease in the cold?
If the pressure in the system is incorrect, the pressure switch will prevent the clutch from engaging. In the Haynes manual series there is a very good section on basic troubleshooting for AC including how to bypass the pressure switch to test the compressor/clutch. |
