Tamiya Porsche 959
I finished this one today (26 April 2010) after just a couple of weeks. I wanted to try to build a model quickly without getting hung up on minor things but still to have it come out looking pretty clean. I chose this kit because it has a fairly low parts count and I figured I wouldn't have to bother adding any detail. I added photoetch brake disks, a couple of hose clamps, and that's it. Paint is Tamiya maroon (TS-11) with rubber black (TS-82) window trim, several varieties of black for the interior, and Alclad chrome in the headlight buckets. Not much else to say. Almost ruined the paint job trying to accent the panel lines, which would have set the project back, but I was able to overcome that problem by adding more paint!

Re: Tamiya Porsche 959
I dig it! These quick builds can sometimes turn out the most rewarding. I think you met your goal perfectly. It's a very clean build and the few detail ups are just enough to set it off. The hose clamps really bring life to the engine bay, and the paint is gorgeous. I'm glad you shared!

Re: Tamiya Porsche 959
Excellent result for a quick build. The colour seems to suit the 959 shape perfectly.

Re: Tamiya Porsche 959
Nothing wrong with a quick build, that's how the majority of my models get built
![]() ![]() Really nice model, the color is unusual and looks great on it.

Re: Tamiya Porsche 959
Thanks, everybody. I also really love this color on this car. Something just told me to try it out and is sure does flatter the shape of the body.
And, Bob, your builds certainly were an influence. I'm trying to improve my skills to the point where I can move things along smoothly, reliably, predictably. I'm pleased with the results of this experiment. |

Re: Tamiya Porsche 959
Man. That car is ugly. And I mean by design, because your work is brilliant.
It makes my almost like this car. I've built this one too, long time ago. But now I cannot imagine how I ever got the idea that it was a beautiful car. Anyway, enough ranting. Your build is just perfect. And the small details you added really make a difference. Nice. |

Re: Tamiya Porsche 959
Nice paint work and color choice. Its very similar to the color of one of the prototypes running around the UK. Not to nag but the side compartments under the engine cover should be a champagne gold color regardless of exterior color. Excellent job fitting the engine cover by the way. Definitely a bugger of a fit job.
