Unhappy 97 Chevy Blazer/Brake Booster

I have a 97 blazer, I just put in some new pads after that I bleed the brakes. I started from passanger back then drive back then passanger front then driver front. I also adjusted the drums. The problem is that when the car is off the pedal is hard ans sturdy but when I turn it on the pedal goes soft and when I press on it, it goes to the floor. When I drive it I can't brake as good as I used too. I have been pointed towards a bad brake booster but im not sure. If anyone could help me I would appreciated.

Does it have a full pedal engine off?

Re: 97 Chevy Blazer/Brake Booster

I have the same problem, on the same vehicle, from a replacing a brake line and YES it has full pedal until the engine is started!!

Do you think it is the whole booster (i see a bit of corrosion,,possibly some fluid may have leaked out of it there)?
edit for update:: the abs had been disconnected,,it is not worth cost to repair or headache, but after the above problem i reconnected the abs, started the car, and got pedal!! I got the idea by reading that the abs system may need to be bled using a scan tool and special tools to open valves etc..!! i am soo happy i had to share the information!

EZH did you clearly check all the brake lines and brake line connections, caliper seals, and wheel cylinder seals? I'd do the basics first.

Re: 97 Chevy Blazer/Brake Booster

Had same problem- ABS needs to be bled with a scan tool. I eliminated the ABS unit, installed a proportioning valve from Speedway, and voila! Everything works as new-just without ABS. Don't forget the proportioning valve or you may swap ends in an emergency braking situation.
