Re: new tires

Do you plan on using the 17" or bigger wheels like 18" or up? If you drop the aspect ratio of P225/55/17 from 55 to 50 or 45 without changing wheel size then you will get an issue with speedometer calibration.

Every tire sold in the US has a DOT ID label that will indicate the year the tire was made. It will indicate production week of manufacture and year. See below.

Quote:
U.S. DOT Tire Identification Number
This begins with the letters "DOT" and indicates that the tire meets all federal standards. The next two numbers or letters are the plant code where it was manufactured, and the last four numbers represent the week and year the tire was built. For example, the numbers 3197 means the 31st week of 1997. The other numbers are marketing codes used at the manufacturer's discretion. This information is used to contact consumers if a tire defect requires a recall.
I would not buy tires that are too old or have been sitting on a shelf for years.

Re: new tires

I had really good luck with Uniroyal Tires from Walmart, but those were the 16". They lasted for 70K.

Re: new tires

just my but i wouldnt buy tires from Wal Mart. Check out http://www.tirerack.com/ they have some pretty decent deals. Nice thing is that they have tire reviews that are unbiased by consumers.

Re: new tires

Technically whatever tire you buy they should at least meet or exceed the specs of the original Goodyear Eagle GT tires which were the stock tires from the factory. Goodyear still makes the Eagle GT tires and here are the current specs:

Quote:
Type: Performance-High-Performance
Sidewall Cosmetics: Black Side Wall
Temperature Rating: A
Traction: AA
Speed Rating: W (168 mph)
Load Index: 96 (1565 lbs.)
Weather: All Season
M+S: Y
Load Range: SL
I use 18" Goodyear Eagle RSA on my GTP (P245/45-R18). $250+ each at Walmart but I did not purchase them at Walmart.

Re: new tires

The last set I put on mine was Bridgestone Potenzza G009. They still have a little tread left after 68k and they are a 50k tire. Road noise isn't too bad, pretty good in the snow, and handle pretty well.

Congratulations and good choice. Its about time someone at this forum went with some decent high performance tires instead of mediocre. We have Goodyear Eagle F1 All Season on our '02 Olds Alero GL2. Great for all types of weather too.
