1/24 Ferrari 250GTE

It's been a long time since i posted a WIP here. I thought that this one might be of some interest.

I've been modifying one of my Air Trax 250GT Pf Coupe kits into a 250GTE for few months now. There are a lot of similarities on these cars that help a lot in this conversion. Silhouette below the roof is actually almost the same except the headlight area, chassis looks mostly same, and basic proportions are the same.

I started by cutting the Pf Coupe body in parts. GTE's windshield is 200 mm further than Pf coupe, but bonnet seems to be close enough in shape to be used as is. Also, lower part of windshield frame seems quite similar. Pf Coupe body parts were glued in their correct locations to achieve a starting point.

At this poin i got a bit carried away and forgot photographing, so next photos show body with mostly correct shape without primer or details. sharp edges and sstraight lines on body sides were made from styrene strips that were glued on top of resin body as guides. Rear portion of the roof was made from an extra Pf Coupe roof that i had lying around after converting one into Pf Cabrio. Rest of the modifications are made from 2K automotive putty.

Now I've started adding body details. Windshield frame is made from styrene strip.

Bumbers are also modified from Pf Coupe parts. Extra material was just sanded and cut away and on some areas putty was needed to make them look correct.

Seat is a modified Air Trax Fiat 1500 Cabriolet part. "Striped" sections were carved on styrene sheet and then bended a bit to achieve correct looking shape. Also some putty was needed to make it look acceptable.

Currently i'm designing the PE sheet and next plastic/resin parts will be dashboard and chassis plate, which can still ne modified from Pf Coupe parts.

Re: 1/24 Ferrari 250GTE

Thanks for the feedback.

I made the dashboard starting from PF Coupe part.

After taking some measures i cut the dashboard in three piecess.

Gaps betwwn parts were filled with putty and styrene pieces.

A little sanding...

Some more putty and styrene strips to make the padding on top of the dashboard.

Result of couple of layers putty and sanding is starting to look like the 1:1.

Nice looking conversion. I had alot of people at Ferrari Expo asking about your kits and trying to get them. I had several on display. Hope you kit this one soon.

Nice! I, for one, really want this car - one of my favorite "affordable" older Ferraris.

It is (we are) group of Finnish modelers, not a "real" company. Basicly all models are from cars that we've done for ourselves, and as a side product couple of us cast kits, so it is a kind of back to the roots resin company. (Trans)kits done so far include couple of 250GT Ferraris, Saab 96, Triumphs TR4 and TRS, Volvo P1800 and Amazon... For a complete list, PM me your email address.

I've got something done with the GTE too. Bumpers, seat and dashboard are ready to be molded after couple of evenings sanding and primering.

I also scribed door and trunk panel lines.

Re: 1/24 Ferrari 250GTE

Finally found my lost motivation to continue with this one. Rear seat, door panels and mostly all interior parts i need to do for this conversion are done. Everything you see is built from styrene sheets, mostly just laminated different thicknesses and cut to shape pieces. PE- test sheet is also on its way from Eduard, so in couple of days i can start finishing the body ( side window frames are on PE sheet)

Thanks, I just never remember to take photos before parts are almost ready, it might be even more helpful.

BTW Paul, have you seen this:

Back to topic: I received the PE testsheet today:

I had to testfit the most important parts (or make them fit )

Visual size of the side window opening will be bigger when the trim lists around it are foiled in the completed model
