325is blown head gasket

Hi I am considering the purchase of a 1993 325is, inline 6 cyl. from a neighbor. However the head gasket is blown and will need to be replaced, around how much do you think this will cost to have replaced by a BMW mechanic?

Re: 325is blown head gasket

Some other questions you might want to ask yourself: is the head warped or cracked; if I sink about 2 grand into this project will I realise a profit if I decide to sell it or will I see a loss I can't recoup and just be buried in it when I leave this mortality; would it benefit me to make this a "project" car and learn to do the work myself with the help of Bentley Publishers or some other book; when I get the engine running, am I willing to sink the money into restoring the rubber (gaskets, bushings, hoses, belts), electrical (sensors, switches, motors, computers) etc. all of which are about 17 yrs old.
I'm not trying to discourage you from mounting this task, as I am doing it myself with some degree of satisfaction, I'm merely calling you to "count the cost" as Jesus said it so well 2K years ago.
Once you get this fixed you'll have a beloved toy for life.
Mine is a 93 325i, 208K miles (100K or so are mine) and still driving it, but i fell in love with the Company, and now have 4 of them in my family.
