Engine interchange

I would like to replace the engine in my '97 Cav. It has the 2.2 with
the 4T40E automatic transmission. A friend has a 2.2 engine with 40K on it out of a '99 Cav. I have been told that the interchange is '96 - '97 Cav or Sunfire. Just looking at the '99 motor, the valve cover is different and the coils appear to have been moved to the left end of the cylinder head. If the motor by itself will not interchange, could the motor / trans and computer be installed as a unit, or are there so many differences to make the swap impossible? It would be nice to install a motor with such low mileage. All of the used motors I have located have had 77K+ on them and compression readings of 170. Thanks
